In 1992, Scotty Cannon didn’t just push the boundaries of Pro Modified — he redrew them.

Entering his third season in the category, Cannon debuted what would become his first IHRA supercharged Pro Modified, a radical machine built from a Chevrolet Lumina Funny Car body. Determined to create what he called the ultimate doorslammer, Cannon cut operational doors into the shell, separated the front clip, and engineered a removable decklid — transforming a Funny Car body into a purpose-built Pro Modified weapon.

He wasn’t wrong.

The fiberglass Lumina body, crafted by Hairy Glass and featuring a distinctive wraparound lip design, was mounted to a Tommy Mauney chassis. The combination introduced structural and aerodynamic concepts that still influence modern Pro Modified construction. Look closely at today’s Pro Mod cars, and you’ll see echoes of Cannon’s vision in their DNA.
